For many students, it’s easy to feel lost, unmotivated, or like you don’t fit in. At the start of middle school, Anya, a Southern California middle schooler, knew this feeling well.
Anya’s counselor, Miss B, created a space where she could open up, share her worries, and truly be herself. Just having someone to listen made it easier for Anya to come to school each day.
Stories like Anya’s show the real power of school counselors. They’re there when students need someone to talk to, when they need help finding their place, or when they just need to know they aren’t alone. For many students, a counselor’s support makes all the difference between struggling in silence and finding the confidence to thrive.

When It's All Too Much, Talk To Your School Counselor
"During the beginning of the year, I felt really out of place. I didn’t want to show up. I had no motivation. I knew absolutely no one.
But Miss B provided an environment for me in counseling that really helped me to adjust and open up about my concerns. It’s easier to come to school, especially after you’ve been able to fully vent out your concerns and really express yourself. I feel like that’s one of the main concerns in middle school—not being able to truly show who you are. But through Miss B, I’ve been able to do that and fully adjust to middle school itself."
